Recovery

For the last 31 years, September has been recognized as National Recovery Month. Recovery Month celebrates the gains made by those living in recovery. It’s a way to educate all of us about substance use treatment and mental health services that help enable those with mental and substance use disorders to live healthy and rewarding lives.

Pharmacists have joined other healthcare professionals on the front line to provide helpful resources to those affected. In Connecticut, pharmacists who have completed the requisite training are able to prescribe and dispense Naloxone , also known as Narcan. Narcan is a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses. Narcan saves lives and can be obtained at your local pharmacy simply by asking. If there is anyone in your life that is suffering from opioid addiction, having Narcan on hand can save their life.

Yes, the first thought that people think of when a pharmacy is mentioned is medications. However, pharmacies and pharmacists in particular should be active members of the community and anyone should be able to utilize your local pharmacists to provide information on treatment centers, counseling centers, physicians, or therapists that specialize in mental and substance use disorders. We all need to work together to overcome!!
